John Turton

Trying to find John's parents. He was born around 1848 Sheffield and married Sarah Ann Lee
3rd May 1873 at St Mary's Bramall Lane. He gives his father as John Turton - file maker. His occupation was table knife finisher

I've found the couple on 1881 census but John is a Greengrocer and he later becomes a fish monger.

Not sure if this is the correct family in 1871 as father John (48) is a steel moulder (from Manchester) and John jnr is an iron moulder. They were living at Carbrook St.

When all the other siblings marry they give their father's occupation as moulder.

Just wondered if someone could look with a "fresh pair of eyes" and see if I've missed something.

Many thanks

Jenny

Re: John Turton

There is a death of a Mary Turton in 1856 aged 37 years (seems to tie in nicely with the age on the 1851 census) she was living at Button Lane and buried at Brammall Lane St Mary's

Re: John Turton

Thank you all so much for your replies. I didn't think I had the right parents so now I can delve further backwards.

Knew I could rely on Sheffield Indexers.

Re: John Turton

Did John Snr remarry? I have found a burial for a John Turton on 24 Jan 1889 (aged 72) living at 23 Regeant Terrace, he was buried at Ecclesall All saints. Could this be your John?

Turton seems a very popular surname.

Re: John Turton

That's something else to look into. Thanks for your help.
