Hello
I am researching this Bonsor papermaking family as their daughter Elizabeth married John Crompton of Farnworth, Lancashire d 1807 also a paper maker and they had a son Thomas Bonsor Crompton . I cant find the origins of either Joseph or Mary though. Please can anyone help.

The Sheffield Archives have in the Jackson Collection (ref JC/1245 : Pedigrees of families living in and around Sheffield; with bookplates and armorial sketches) - Bonsor family of Wadsley Bridge (page 152)

The Borthwick Institute, http://www.york.ac.uk/borthwick/remote-services/copying/order-form
has a copy of the marriage licence (which should state the parents) of Joseph Bonsor and Mary Ryley. Joseph was born in 1711 and the licence was dated 13th June 1736 (to order use refences Yorkshire, Archbishop Of York Marriage Licences Index, 1613-1839, Record sequence number 10, page number 23 )

This is a really interesting thread for me as my maiden name was Riley. I have traced my family back to the 1841 census in England when they were recorded as Ryley and they had settled in Ormskirk Lancaster after coming from Ireland.My ggg grandfather then moved to Sheffield. I will have to see if there is a link.

Apparently Mary's father was James Ryley and her mother was Elizabeth Grimshaw. They married
