My Great Grandmother was Florence Quinn (sometimes Quin). On the 1901 census she is at an address in Bailey Street with my Grandfather Clement Acaster Quinn born 1895 (recorded on census as John) and Frank a baby born 1900. We have puzzled over this for many years. How could Florence have survived at this time as a single parent? The Clement Acaster name given to my Grandfather was strange too. Florence was from an Irish family and her other child being Frank made Clement Acaster stand out as being very different.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
There’s a birth 1865 Sheffield for a Clement Augustus Acaster. Have you already taken a look at him?
Florence was only 17 when she gave birth to Clement. In principle therefore her father would be financially responsible for her until she reached 21 (1899).
Apparently she was a Laundress in 1901.
When did her father die?
Karen, Clement Acaster Quinn married twice. Do you have the marriage certificates?
How did he answer the question about his father name?
