Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

Hi David,

As you know we have only transcribed 1843-1850 Church of Ascension Oughtibridge baptisms.

BUT I do have them covering the time period you were asking about. (Thanks Terry for photographing them).

They read.
13th Oct 1885 Ernest Walter Ibbotson son of HENRY & Emma Ibbotson of Oughtibridge a Carter.

Its how the Vicar writes his "R" that could be confusing you.

Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

I believe Harry was an affectionate name for Henry and probably vice versa.

Terry

Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

Hi Elaine. So it looks that I was wrong and it's Henry. Many thanks.

Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

Sorry still little unsure...GRO Index does say Ernest Walter Ibbotson b 1882 mother was a Wood (Emma Wood) over to the marriage on the left....HARRY Ibbotson, aged 20, carter, 3 Langsett Rd married Emma Wood 24 February 1880, with his father as Henry Ibbotson (Inn Keeper)

Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

David don't ponder anymore.LOL

Look at it this way.......

Two Henry Ibbotsons in a household confusing so the son is called Harry an abbreviation of Henry.

Re: Ernest Walter Ibbotson, query

"Cry ‘God for **Harry**, England, and Saint George!’"
Shakespeare, **Henry** V
