PARENTS OF JOAN RODGERS

I have obtained a birth certificate for Joan Rogers she was born on the 10 - 09 - 1940 in Workington Cumberland her parents names are named as John Rodgers and Blanche Moore
I have searched for these parents but with no luck.
Joan was married tp William Thompson Bell Jul - Sep - 1960 and William died 03 - 05 - 1988 age 50 in Stanwix Cumberland
I would be very grateful for any information regarding John and Blanche.
My very best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft.

Re: PARENTS OF JOAN RODGERS

John and Blanche are on the 1939 Register at 20 Roper Terrace, Workington.

dob - John 12/03/1906. Blanche 30/12/1909.

They seem to have 4 children, 3 redacted and then Margaret dob 10/03/1939.

Re: PARENTS OF JOAN RODGERS

Hi Terry,
Thank you very much for your very kind reply. They don't make thing's easy.
I think I have now sorted out John Rodgers he was born 12 - 03 - 1907 in WhiteHaven Vol 10b Page 715, died Jul - Sep - 1982 age 75 in Cockermouth Vol 1 Page 0370, Blanche Hayes Moore born 30 - 12 - 1909 in Cockermouth shown only as Blanche Moore, died June 1986 in Whitehaven Vol 1 Page 685, married Oct - Dec - 1928 in Whitehaven Vol 10b Page 1173.
The 1939 census does not show Blanche's name on the first page of the census form but does shoe her name on the 2nd page of the census page but only as Blanche Rodgers.
Hoping I have got the correct information now.
Once again thank you very much for your very kind help.
My very best wishes.
Fred.

Re: PARENTS OF JOAN RODGERS

The Whitehaven 1986 Blanche Rodgers death in 1986 is possibily your target person.
But consider
FreeBMD deaths
1986
RODGERS BLANCHE HAYES DOB 26DE1907 WHITEHAVEN 1 645
The equivalent record at https://www.gro.gov.uk/ says the death registration was in the 2nd quarter of 1986.

1939 Register, Workington
Rodgers Blanche DOB 30 Dec 1909 (and there is another notation in lighter pen/pencil 21.10.50 that I don’t understand)

There is a disconnect between the two records of birth day and birth year which makes me hesitate about these records being for the same person.

I have encountered people being wrong in the record of their birth year, but rarely their birth day and month.

On the other hand a 1939 birth registered March quarter 1939 has the mother’s maiden name as Moore, which supports the 1939 register for the child born 10 March 1939 being your Rodgers-Moore family. As the birth is less than 100 years ago someone must have asked for Margaret Moore’s record to be opened.

www.gro.gov.uk/ has this birth index item which would suit a December 1907 birth
MOORE, BLANCHE HAYES mother’s maiden name MAVIR
GRO Reference: 1908 M Quarter in COCKERMOUTH Volume 10B Page 670

Consider from your awareness of the family whether your target family includes the following Moore-Mavir births
MOORE, CATHERINE MAVIR
GRO Reference: 1891 M Quarter in COCKERMOUTH Volume 10B Page 571

MOORE, MARY ALICE MAVIR
GRO Reference: 1892 D Quarter in COCKERMOUTH Volume 10B Page 552

MOORE, JOHN WILLIAM MAVIR
GRO Reference: 1900 S Quarter in COCKERMOUTH Volume 10B Page 623

I might appear to be talking in riddles here, but I’m puzzled by the difference In the two different records of birth days.

Re: PARENTS OF JOAN RODGERS

Terry,
"1939 Register, Workington
Rodgers Blanche DOB 30 Dec 1909 (and there is another notation in lighter pen/pencil 21.10.50 that I don’t understand)"

Here are the meanings of the later entries. Note that the address in 1939 was in enumerator area HBKX

Whoever gave the info to the enumerator in September 1939 could have made mistakes in birth dates
The pencil additions on 21/10/50 for Blanche are to show that she has reported that she is at a new address (in area HBD). At the same time there is a pencil note to say the birth date should be 26 12 1910. So the 1939 Register contains info that indicates that Blanche may have been born 26th Dec rather than 30th Dec.
There is also a pencil note alongside daughter Margaret dated 17/10/1950 to say that she has moved to a new address in area HBD.
Margaret also has a note in Green saying her birthday was 17/11/1938, This green note is clearly referring to this death in Q4 1983
RODGERS MARGARET 17NO1938 WHITEHAVEN 1 691

Coincidentally it looks like Margaret's twin sister Eileen married a man called Storey and when she died her birth was reported as 1938 not 1939
STOREY, EILEEN 1938
GRO Reference: DOR Q4/2009 in COCKERMOUTH (3761A) Reg 1A002 Entry Number 502459336

I do not know who reported Blanche's birthday on her death registration but I do know it was not Blanche herself, and it was not John her husband (and apparently not Margaret the daughter).
I wonder if the births of twins Margaret and Eileen were a case of very late registration and a false (later) birthday was reported to avoid the fines!
