d 30 May 1902 High Hazels Colliery, Darnall
b 3 June 1902 St Oswald, Althorpe
On the 1901 census he's a boarder in Orgreave, occupation labourer at pit, gives his status as single?
I am assuming he died as a result of an accident, but have been unable to find any details. As he is only a 1st cousin 3x removed, i'm reluctant to send for a death certificate......times are hard....but would like to tie up this loose end.
I was hoping if someone has a subscription to newspapers and 5 mins to spare they might see if anything was reported at the time
This could be the accident, though a death is not mentioned?
From Sheffield Evening Telegraph 16th June 1902:
"BREACH OF COLLIERY RULES AT HIGH HAZELS
This morning, at the Rotherham West Riding Police Court, Joseph Harris, of Darnall, was fined 30s and costs for having infringed the Coal Mines Regulation Act (Rule 12) at the High Hazels Colliery, on May 29th. Defendant, who was a shot firer, deputed some other person to act for him, and an accident resulted, a man being injured."
