Re: Thornton/wyatt

Thank you for that. Can you tell me where you find this sort of information. I need to find something similar for William Thornton to Ann Baldwin

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Marriage 27/06/1858 at St George’s, Sheffield.
William Thornton, bachelor aged 20, spring knife cutler of Hanover St.
Father William Thornton, boot and shoe maker.
Ann Baldwin, spinster aged 18 of Spring Lane.
Father George Baldwin, file maker.
Interestingly the witnesses were Thomas and Ann Goff.
Everyone signed with a mark.

The original image is on FMP

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Thanks for that Heather, I think that's the advantage of fmp over ancestry(which I have)
Would you be kind enough to email me a copy.

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Sue, suggestions.........

Use Family Search for Eliza possible birth around 1811. Unfortunately we do not have the baptisms for that time period. Another project.

Have you found her on a census that would give you some idea of her age. If you look at our 1841 census index over to the left you will find them both there. Dont forget the ages may have been rounded down.
Burial would be another idea of her birth.

Elaine in Ottawa.

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Sue
There is only one baptism in Sheffield for Eliza Cartwright born between 1809 and 1811. That is in 1811 at the parish church, mother Alathea Cartwright, spinster.
Note that GRO index has Alethea Thornton b 1849 Sheffield, mmn CartWright.

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Yes you are correct, I think her mother was Alethea Cartwright, no father mentioned.

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Hi Sue

Image of the marriage record has been sent

Re: Thornton/wyatt

Alethea went on to marry a cutler called Joseph Sheldon.
In the 1841 census they're on Green St - FMP have transcribed her as Habatha, and she was aged 47.

BTW their son Austin Sheldon married my gt-gt grandpa's sister.
Small world!
