I am looking for the parents of William Thornton. He marred Martha Wyatt 1909. Anyone have details it would help me move on, thanks
The marriage at St Mary’s Bramall Lane 23/03/1909 says his father was William Henry Thornton (deceased) cutler.
In 1901 William Thornton, Step-son aged 14 is with his mother Emma now the wife of
Samuel Morrall. His siblings are Walter 12, Harry 10, John A. 6 and Harold 4.
Emma Thornton a widow aged 33 married Samuel Morrall 4 Aug 1898 at St Mary's, Bramall Lane.
Emma's father is given as John Gough (dec), file grinder.
William Henry Thornton married Emma Gough 18 March 1888 at St Pauls, Pinstone St.
William Henry Thornton aged 31, table knife grinder, died at Office Yard, High St.
Buried 16 March 1895, City Road Cemetery.
There are three other Thornton burials in the same grave. (See burial records in the
left hand column).
1891 census - Will Thornton (born ca 1863) wife Emma, and sons William and Walter are all boarding with Henry Gough in Beeston ( near Basford) Notts.
Can you confirm the father of William Henry Thornton on his marriage to Emma Gough. Thanks
William Henry Thornton married on 18th March 1888 in St Paul's Church. Father's name William Thornton (spring knife cutler)
Thank you for that. Can you tell me where you find this sort of information. I need to find something similar for William Thornton to Ann Baldwin
Marriage 27/06/1858 at St George’s, Sheffield.
William Thornton, bachelor aged 20, spring knife cutler of Hanover St.
Father William Thornton, boot and shoe maker.
Ann Baldwin, spinster aged 18 of Spring Lane.
Father George Baldwin, file maker.
Interestingly the witnesses were Thomas and Ann Goff.
Everyone signed with a mark.
The original image is on FMP
Thanks for that Heather, I think that's the advantage of fmp over ancestry(which I have)
Would you be kind enough to email me a copy.
The Sheffield Parish Registers are on FMP at present BUT Ancestry are now in the archives filming them to put on theire site.
Any further information eg fathers names would be a great help

Use Family Search for Eliza possible birth around 1811. Unfortunately we do not have the baptisms for that time period. Another project.
Have you found her on a census that would give you some idea of her age. If you look at our 1841 census index over to the left you will find them both there. Dont forget the ages may have been rounded down.
Burial would be another idea of her birth.
Elaine in Ottawa.
There is only one baptism in Sheffield for Eliza Cartwright born between 1809 and 1811. That is in 1811 at the parish church, mother Alathea Cartwright, spinster.
Note that GRO index has Alethea Thornton b 1849 Sheffield, mmn CartWright.
Yes you are correct, I think her mother was Alethea Cartwright, no father mentioned.
Image of the marriage record has been sent
Alethea went on to marry a cutler called Joseph Sheldon.
In the 1841 census they're on Green St - FMP have transcribed her as Habatha, and she was aged 47.
BTW their son Austin Sheldon married my gt-gt grandpa's sister.
