Possible transcription error

In the following baptismal record he seems to have been baptised before birth?

Green, Lawrence (of 2/2 Furnace Hill, born 1927-03-22).
Baptised February 17, 1927, by M.J.Twomey at St Vincents, Sheffield.
Parents name(s) are Nellie Hughes & William (~).
Note: ~
Godparents: Blanche Flemming :Page No 211 :Reg No 3382

Does it need correcting?

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Catherine,

Will certainly check it out for you and if I can change it I will.

Elaine in Ottawa.

Re: Possible transcription error

Thank you

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Elaine
Many thanks for your email. It went into my junk folder . Luckily I read it because I pressed something by accident and it disappeared,
Best wishes
Catherine

Re: Possible transcription error

It Looks as though the baptism date is wrong if you look at baptisms on the same date there is another boy baptised before he was born I found a baptism for somebody born 2 years later when I looked at same day baptisms I found another 2 baptisms that were born approximatley 2 years later

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for confirmation there is a problem with that page of entries.

I have asked Terry to photograph that Register for me as I do not have the original that we used when transcribing St Vincent. That could take some time but I will check the information out.

Thanks Elaine.

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Catherine- Nicholas,

With the fantastic effort of our photographer (Terry) I have the page in question.

Lawrence was indeed baptised on the 17th April not the 17th of February.
I have checked the other four baptisms for that date and only Lawrence was incorrect.

To make my life a little easier Nicholas could you point out the others that you say are incorrect.

Thanks Elaine.

Re: Possible transcription error

I have a similar problem it shows my Dad baptised before he was born. Frank Hibbert born 11 October 1926 but baptised September.

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Susan,

HIBBERT, Frank (of 148 Eldon St, born 1926-10-11).
Baptised September 3, 1926, by George W Turner at St Jude, Eldon Street.
Parents name(s) are Emily & Arthur (Labourer).
Note: The dates are as per the register
**********************************************************************************

This is the entry........ As you can see when we transcribed it we noticed the error but it was made in the Register so we are unable to change it.

Elaine in Ottawa.

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Elaine, thank you, yes I remember you checked for me a while ago. I just wonder how the error happened in the register it seems ridiculous that someone could not see the error when entering it in 1926.

Re: Possible transcription error

Hi Susan,

From all the original register pages I read I can assure you that it happens quite often.

Most were not entered alone and it was just a case of the Vicar or Priest catching up with the paperwork when able.

Elaine.

Re: Possible transcription error

Many thanks for sorting it out. Also mant thanks for letting us know.

Re: Possible transcription error

I think thats an excellent idea - the vicar just sitting there catching up with his paper work.
It happens here sometimes when I'm doing my paperwork!!!
