Hi John Gosling, born 1857 and his wife, Mary Ann Burkinshaw apparently had 7 children, one of whom died. I am struggling to find a birth for this missing child, any help on that would be appreciated.
Also, on the 1901 census, there is a daughter, Hilda, aged 2. She is not with John and Mary Ann on the 1911 census, aged 12. However, there is a 12 year old Hilda Irving, living with Washington and Annie Irving, (one of the daughters of John and Mary Ann) on the 1911 census. Annie and Washington married in 1903, when Hilda would have been 4. Is the best idea to send for Hilda`s birth certificate, to see if Annie was Hilda`s mother.

Cathy have you looked at the GRO index its free and it will give the mothers maiden name.
There is a 19 January 1920 marriage of a Hilda Gosling age 21 of 11 Hope Street Barnsley to Harold Sutcliffe Cooper. At St Mary's Church Barnsley. It is in Ancestry's West Yorkshire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1813-1935. Hilda's father's name ---, profession ---.
Some family trees claim this is Hilda Cooper died Barnsley 4th quarter 1938 age 40.

Cathie, if you look at Gro index as advised by Elaine you will find Hilda Gosling Birth reg in 1898 Barnsley with no mmn so that would have told you she was illegitimate.
