Leah's Yard

Hello!

As many of you may know, Leah's Yard on Cambridge Street was once a collection of industrial workshops that survived until the late 1900s. It is currently undergoing a £6m restoration and is set to open mid 2023 creating a unique heritage destination of local independent retailers, cafes and restaurants. We are very aware that Leah’s Yard has a long and rich history as a key part of Sheffield City Centre, and as part of the redevelopment we would like to preserve the history of the building. We are currently looking for any records about Leah's Yard and the people who worked there before and after Henry Leah became a tenant.

Leah's Yard is on 20 Cambridge Street which was formerly known as Coalpit lane. Some individuals we know of currently are:

James Morton - Horn Merchant who owned Leah's before it was Leah's Yard.
Edward Linely
William Greaves - brewer who owned the sportman pub outside
Robert Thompson - ran the horn works after James Morton died in 1870.
Mr Stothard - Thompson's successors
Henry Hobson - murdered the wife of the younger Mr. Stothard
Henry Leah
