Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Hi, Can anyone help ??
I have 2 Josiah Atkins both deaths in 1770.
I have 2 births, 2 deaths and 1 Will.
Births -Josiah Atkin 27 Jun 1737 and Josiah Atkin 1705. Places mentioned are Norton, Dronfield and Eckington
Deaths - 4 May 1770 and 30 Aug 1770.
The Will is dated 1770 at Eckington. I am hoping to view the Will in the hope it will confirm which Josiah it relates to.
Does anyone know if you can get free access to Wills or is this something that you have to pay for and if so how do you do this.
Thanks
Karen

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

You Can find out if they left a will for free, but you have to pay to get the details

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Ok thanks.
Have you any idea where/what site I look on ??

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Ive found the entry for the will on Ancestry but it only has the name and date. It is also on FindMyPast but I dont have a subscription for that.
Would any one be able to look at this for me and see if they give any other information.
Ive been googling how to purchase an old will but cant find anything.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Karen

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Hi Karen,

Re the will of Josiah Atkin in 1770.

It mentions son George, son Robert and daughter Elizabeth Oats.
Also, sons-in-law, Joseph Oats, John Booth, cutler and Thomas Booth.

The will states that Josiah is of Mosbrough parish of Eckington, sicklesmith.

Moira.

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Hi Karen,
Further to Moira's input for the Will of Josiah Atkin.
The following information(not the Will, sorry) is from Ancestry + an Ancestry Tree (Trickett Family)
The Tree on Ancestry website has:
Josias Atkin born 1696 (?) death 1770, age 74
He marries twice. 1st marriage in Dronfield (1721), 2nd in Eckington.(1735/36..??)
1st wife a Mary Turner with whom he has 5 children.
2nd wife Martha Booth with whom he has 5 children
One of his sons is also named Josiah born about 1737 death 1749 age 12.
Also in 1749 a daughter Martha and his second wife Martha Booth die all in 1749/50.
All the above take place in Norton/Eckington.

Although this info is mainly from someone's Tree, it does explain the two Josiah Atkin's you have.

Re: Josiah Atkin Norton/Eckington

Hi

If you use this link, it will tell you how to go about obtaining a copy of a will.

Search probate records for documents and wills (England and Wales) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

There is a charge but it's not expensive.
