Unconsicrated ground

The records on Sheffield Indexers show some of my relatives being buried in Unconsecrated Ground at Intake Cemetery, does anyone know why this would be. One of the graves is that of a 4 day old child. Thanks

Re: Unconsicrated ground

Hello Karen
Unconsecrated Ground indicates any burial service that was not performed by the Church of England, eg, Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholics, Quakers. Consecrated ground means it has been blessed by the Church of England.
Christine.

Re: Unconsicrated ground

Thanks Christine, this would make sense because the majority of our Family worshipped at Hollinsend Methodist Chapel.
