Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Hi Julie
The marriage date was 18 March 1832
William Truelove OTP (of This Parish)
Hannah Walker OTP
William signed BUT Hannah made her mark (X)
Witnesses Js Brailsford and Martha Jessop.
You are unlikely to find their father's names on a marriage certificate before 1st July 1837 when civil registration was introduced. Although sometimes a witness could be a relation.
If you are just starting out I suggest you check out "civil registration of marriages" by googling it.
Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Hi Angela
Thanks for the reply.
I have this info already. was hoping someone may have access to more detailed records.
I have found some pre 1837 that do give fathers name, but obviously not in this case.

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Hi Julie,
Check out Family Search website for William Truelove's parents.
There is what looks like a death year baptism for William.
Born 12th Dec/1812 Baptized:25th Feb/1891
the latter was I believe, the year William died.
Parents: George and Sarah

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
The William Truelove baptised 25th Feb 1891 was buried 8 days later
TRUELOVE, William (Silversmith, age 78).
Died at New George Street; Buried on March 4, 1891 in ~ ground;
Grave Number 50, Section A of Norton Cemetery, Sheffield.

And his wife was Hannah, buried 7 years earlier in what looks like it must be the same grave. Presumably either Section Q or Section A is a transcription error.
TRUELOVE, Hannah (~, age 71).

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Wendy, thanks.
I had noticed that. Also FMP has the 1833 BAPTISM as 1812 birth. So it looks like ours needs checking (it says 1832).
Over to Elaine
Truelove, William (of Sheffield, born 1832-12-10).(SHOULD THIS BE 1812 NOT 1832?)
Baptised November 17, 1833, by Wm Carter at Sheffield Parish Church, Church Street, Sheffield.
Parents name(s) are Sarah & George (Silver Plater).

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Hi Dave, Wendy and Elaine
Many thanks for all this.
I had already seen most of it, but not the entry for the baptism of William in 1833 which gives parents as George (silver plater) and Sarah.
This could tie in as William was a silver worker on Census and on his son's birth certificate in 1844. Also, William and Hannah's first child was called Sarah Ann - possibly named for his mother?
I know it wasn't unusual to be baptised well after the birth,( I have several instances where more than one child was baptised at the same time),but do you have any ideas as to why it would be when someone was in their early 20s?
Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Julie
In case you did not notice. Elaine found that the 1833 baptism was a double baptism, 21 yr old William and 23 yr old Mary Ann, William's sister. Clearly they did not need parental permission.
Perhaps their parents were strong atheists and prevented baptism before age 21, when they could choose for themselves.
Presumably William forgot he was already baptised as he approached his death in 1891.
Maybe if you research the parents George and Sarah (nee Curtis I believe) something will show up.

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
I do not have edit function
George Truelove OF NEW GEORGE STREET was buried 12th Feb 1860 age 83 at Ecclesall All Saints.
His wife Sarah is not there.
George (b 1877) and Sarah (b 1875) are together on 1841 census at Club Gardens Ecclesall Bierlow. She died in 1847 and is buried at the Sheffield parish church.

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Oops
Of course the birth years for George and Sarah were 1777 and 1775 not 100 years later as I mistyped.
George TRUELOVE is on FMP in the 1831 census, At Hillfoot, Nether Hallam. The family is just 4 persons, 2 male and 2 female, and there is only one male over 20.
These 4 people must be George, wife Sarah, son William 19 and daughter Mary Ann 21. 2 years later the 2 adult children are baptised together
Sarah was 35 when Mary Ann was born, and 37 when William was born. But they married 10 years before MArY Ann was born. I wonder if they were childless for 10 years then "adopted" the 2 children. That might explain the double adult baptism.

Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Hi Dave et al,
I did find some other children's baptisms with parents George and Sarah on Family Search website but cannot be sure they link with this family(I have not checked them individually if they appear later on any census records or marriage records)
They were not with George and Sarah in 1841,who were now in their 60's but they did have a Henry Smith age 14 with them, could be a grandchild or a nephew):
JANE TRUELOVE born: 2/July/1804
bapt: 25/July/1804 at SPC
ELIZA TRUELOVE born: 25/May/1807
bapt: 25/May/1807 at Upper Independent Chapel
GEORGE TRUELOVE: Died/Buried: 7th Jan/1816 at
St.Pau;'s, Pinstone Street. (not sure if this was an infant or not)
Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
To add to Wendy's find.
TRUELOVE, George (ch, died on ?, at the age of ).
Resided at and buried on 7 Jan 1816 in ? ground;
Grave Number ?, Section ? of St Paul Cemetery, City Center.
Notes: . Place of Birth: . Parent(s): George.
Re: Marriage William Truelove and hannah Walker 1832
Wendy, thanks. That puts paid to the basis for my adoption theory.
TRUELOVE, Jane (Spinster, age ~, ~, residing at Parish of Rotherham).
Married John SMITH, on March 14, 1824, by ~ (Banns) at
Parish Church, Rotherham. Father's name is ~ (~).
Married in the presence of ~.
Smith, Henry (of Sheffield, born 1826-08-10).
Baptised September 3, 1826, by William H Vale at Sheffield Parish Church, Church Street, Sheffield.
Parents name(s) are Jane & John (Cutler).
I think the above Marriage and birth confirm Henry Smith as a grandson and firmly link Jane to the right family.
Presumably Emma and George are also correct.
