Can anyone tell me please before I delve into the unknown on the above but I have a person in a tree that was born in Belgium. Does the census tell me exactly where he was born so then I can hopefully track his parentage

Cheers Dave. Is Gaston Leopold Ghislain Godefroid born in 1893. He was living with his wife Elizabeth and two children one was called Albert Leopold Godefroid born 1917.

He was born in Marchienne in the province (county) of Hainault. I assume that is Marchienne-au-Pont which is on the west side of Charleroi.

You will get his father name from his marriage cert.
Suggest you google baptism records Marchienne-au-pont, you may get lucky.
Try Family Search for the original records.
From 1939 register you know his birthday 4/7/1893.
