Burial search

Hi

I'm really struggling to find where my great-grandparents are buried in Sheffield. These are their names and what information I have:

Joseph Frederick Wilson DOB 26/04/1897, died in Q3 1962. His last address was 502 Deerlands Avenue, Parson Cross, Sheffield

Harriet Wilson DOB 01/12/1898 (or 1897), died in Q2 1967. Her last address was Lamb Road, Shiregreen (or Shirecliffe), Sheffield.

I thought the most likely places would have been Shiregreen, Burngreave or Wardsend cemeteries as they are the closest to where they were living (there are other family members at Burngreave as well). I've tried Find My Past (when I have a subscription last year), on the Sheffield Indexers records, bereavement services, the Friends of Wardsend Cemetery where a really helpful man also checked probate records and findagrave.com but no sign of them.

Has anyone got any other ideas as to how I might find where they are?

Many thanks
Julia

Re: Burial search

Being a Wilson researcher myself I know how difficult it can be finding them.

However....... try our burials again for Joseph Frederick he comes up and then on find in same grave.

Looks like the family.

Re: Burial search for Joseph Frederick Wilson.

Hi Julia,

You needed to click on the Find Similar in Same Grave.

It's a little off date wise but this is how I read it.

WILSON, Joseph (Retired, age 75).
Died at Fir Vale Infirmary; Buried on June 2, 1960 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 8745, Section H of Shiregreen Cemetery, Sheffield.
Parent or Next of Kin if Available: ~. Remarks: ~.
Plot Owner: ~ ~ of ~. Page No 55
Find Similar in Same Grave Same Household if Available Surname Match if Available

WILSON, Joseph Frederick (Labourer, age 23).
Died at Winter Street Hospital; Buried on November 26, 1940 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 8745, Section H of Shiregreen Cemetery, Sheffield.
Parent or Next of Kin if Available: ~. Remarks: ~.
Plot Owner: ~ ~ of ~. Page No ~

I went to the 1939 Index. 502 Deerland Ave.

Joseph F DOB 22 April 1897
Harriet 01 Dec 1898.
Frederick Joseph DOB 23 Jan 1921.
Plus 2 redacted entries.

From our Baptisms.

WILSON, Frederick Joseph (of 1 Mitchell Street, born 1921-01-23).
Baptised February 6, 1921, by H Ewbank at St George, Brook Hill.
Parents name(s) are Harriet & Joseph Fred (Labourer).

Both the above (burials)for Joseph & Joseph Frederick were probably related to each other as they are both in the same grave.
If they are not the ones you are looking for in Grave 8745 Section H.
I can not see another another Joseph Frederick listed.

I have looked at Ecclesfield. With no luck.

If I can think of anything else I will get back to you.

Re: Burial search for Joseph Frederick Wilson.

I wonder.......

Could they have been cremated?

Re: Burial search for Joseph Frederick Wilson.

Possibly, are cremation records kept anywhere? They weren't a well off family so maybe they don't have a marker anywhere

Re: Burial search for Joseph Frederick Wilson.

Julia, our cremation records for City Road only go up to 1951. In previous forum messages, Christine Steers has reported on later cremations so you could try contacting her.
