Alan, you need GRO Index.
Free to use, online. You need only to sign up.
That will give you mother maiden name the you can search using that to find all siblings which will tell you approx when the parents married. Then use Free BMD to find the marriage,

Dave and carol thank you for your help, it was Ben's son Michael w Wilkinson's funeral yesterday so I thought I'd look up his tree , Mike was my wife's cousin ]thank you again
