Smeaton built and designed the lighthouse off Plymouth. When it was decided to replace it it was transported and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe. Still there now.
Thank you. I'm not convinced though that this guy was the Sheffield Smeaton. Why would a national figure's name be used foe a tiny insignificant street continuing of just 10 tiny terraced houses?
Of course it is feasible that the street could be named after one of the various Smeaton villages in the Doncaster area. They were mentioned in the Domesday book.
