Mr Newell's Middle Class School Paradise Square

Good evening all

This is a school whose pupils haven't been recorded by our indexers.
A Google search shows nothing, so can I ask if anyone during their research has come across this place ?

Many thanks

Roger

Re: Mr Newell's Middle Class School Paradise Square

The school opened on 6th September 1886 in premises formerly occupied by Mr Hebblethwaite's Academy. There were classes for Boys, Girls (9s to 10/6d per month) and Kindergarten (7/6d a month.

Hebblethwaite's had been in Pot / Paradise Square for generations and had a flight of stone steps up to the door, that was used by political speakers. Edward Hebblethwaite started his teaching career aged 21 at the Lancasterian School, but was dismissed at the end of his apprenticeship, and on seeing premises to rent in Paradise Square started his own mixed school.

Good evening Dave and Ted and a big thanks for that information.
Now I am wondering if Sheffield Archives may have pupil records !
