help with a baptism transcription

Hi,
I have done voluntary transcribing, and have managed quite well, however I am struggling to fully read the baptism record I have for an Mary Ann Harrison, baptised 6 March 1812. I have downloaded a copy and can see the father was John, but in the next column it gives other names (I thought these may be mother? But underneath John, I think it reads his wife Elizth?

Is anyone will to take a look for me? record is on FMP but I can email a copy to you.

TIA
Sarah

Re: help with a baptism transcription

Hi

I'm not sure if there is a problem with FMP but I'm not turning up this baptism in 1812.
Is it at the Parish church (later cathedral) and have you got the correct date.

Re: help with a baptism transcription

Hi all

Theres a baptism at St Martin *** Gregory, York (not Sheffield) for

Mary Ann Harrison Born 6 March 1812, baptised 5 April 1812 (but its easy to mistake the birth date for the baptism date):

1st column - Fathers Name, profession and abode

First daughter of Jno Harrison, Coachman, Son of Jno Harrison, Labourer by his wife Elizth Smith

Next Column - Mothers name and descent:

Sarah, daughter of James Huddleston, by his wife Mary Season

Could this be it - seems to fit a lot of the detail??

Thank you so much. Yes this is the one I was referring to - so the Elizth smith is the father's mother? Just to be sure...

Re: help with a baptism transcription

Hi Sarah,

Some Parishes used this form of entry in their Parish Registers giving a compact family history.

There is a name for them my very senior head just isn't bringing it to mind at the moment.

I have seen a few written that way in some of the registers we havd transcribed but very few.

Elaine in Ottawa.

PS could it be Dade???????

Yes it is.

Hi Elaine.

Dade registers are correct,

I cam across a long run of these from Teversel in Nottinghamshire, they were a godsend.

Hi Angela,

Good to see you are still "obsessed" as I am with Family History. LOL

Hi Elaine

Nothing changes and believe it or not it keeps me out of mischief

I am also still producing the S&DFHS quarterly journal, been doing it for 11 years now. and as you know researching for 30 years.
I think it is the only think that has kept me sane during this pandemic.

Miss my 1 day a week in the archives though.

Take Care

Are you aware the archives are back to normal Angela? But no washroom facilities.

John

Obviously closed tomorrow.
