I have checked the GRO index which gives -

No other entry fits.
Is there any way of checking this burial entry again please?

I have checked the original burial entry and it does say clearly, 47 years. Although I have checked the Grave Register, I cannot find which grave he was interred in.

Hi Lyn et al,
In the BMD records there is only one William Smithson who died 1917/June Qtr/Sheffield aged 73.
However, there is one other record for Joseph Smithson who died 1917/June qtr/Ecclesall Bierlow aged 47.
This is the only record I have found for a Smithson dying in 1917 aged 47.
