Sheffield burial

I am researching the graves of veterans of the American Civil War (1861-65) in the mainland UK.
One was an Algernon T. Appleton, born Attercliffe, who served in the 12th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, had returned by 1871, and died at 39 Primrose Avenue,Sheffield, on October 7, 1917. His wife was Rhoda Thompson.
I'd be really grateful for any help in finding where he is buried.

Re: Sheffield burial

Just to back up what Sue Winter already discovered, there was a death notice in the Sheffield Independent of Tuesday 09 October 1917 saying that he died on October 7th at Shiregreen, and that he was 76 and was a veteran of the American civil war.

Funeral at Rotherham Cemetery the next day (Wed. 10) at 3.30.

A little article in the Telegraph of the same date (Tue. 9) said that he was 74.

Cheers,

Andrew P.
