Wadsley Parish Church

I have been working away on a "Dyson" one name study with a few pitfalls.

One that has just come to light and I wondered if anyone has noticed the following.

Burials 1835 to 1966. From the Small Guide to the Parishes in the Sheffield Area by S&DFHS.

It is noted that records are missing 7/5/1891 to 11/1/1895.:sob:

Maybe "Angela" can answer my question......

Is there no other way of finding out those burials in that time period.???????

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

Would there maybe be separate plot ownership records held by the Church???

If you do by anychance have the burial register Elaine, could you tell me if a Martha Hannah HEAP is buried there in 1906 (another of my long standing 'where are they buried' mysteries, she died at Wadsley Asylum and I know some were buried there).

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

Hi Richard

Marthas burial is on this site over to the left. In the same grave is Myles Heap.

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

Face plant time......I spent years focusing on her being buried in Wadsley Church (including going headstone hunting at the church.)

I knew Miles died at 38 Blast Lane, near St John's Church and could never find his burial either, I know very well how to use the search on here (*'s are the key!) but for whatever reason I never came up with their burials (Great x2 grand parents).

Mystery solved!

Many thanks and soooo sorry for hijacking your thread Elaine!

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

Hi Richard

If its any consolation - The St Marys Walkley burials have only been added in the last few months - so easy to miss them if you dont keep revisiting!!!

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

At the end of the register which takes the Wadsley Burials up to May 1891 there is this note:

Note
From May 8th 1891
To Decr 31st 1894
Numbered 801 to 1105
The Register of these Burials
will be found in the Large
Register used for new Graves

Re: Wadsley Parish Church

Hi Hugh,

Just playing devils advocate here.

The so called missing burials are NOT missing just in another book.
Covering "entries" 801 to 1105.

It seems we will have to have another look at transcribing those entries. That is when the Archives open.

Thanks for clarifying it for me/us.
