Birth reg - Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
WARRINER, HENRY COUSINS
GRO Reference: 1862 J Quarter in SHEFFIELD Volume 09C Page 402 Occasional Copy: A

Never come across occasional 'Occasional copy A' before - Henry died in the same qtr. On the burials it has -
WARRINER, Henry (Son of Charles Warriner, age 24 hours). Died at New Cemetery Rd; Buried on June 2, 1862 in General ground; Grave Number 23, Section M3 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield
I am asuuming it was obviously not a stilbirth but a birth reg would be needed as well as death cert.
Many thanks
Lyn

Re: GRO

Lyn, the Occasional Copy denotes a second registration which contains a change compared to the first registration. The change could be very minor.

Re: GRO

Dave Occasional Copy A then, I presume the death quarter is the same or could that have changed as well?

Re: GRO

Hi Lyn

Just to support Daves explanation heres the official line from the GRO;

"There are going to be instances where the original registration has been amended in some way, requiring an “occasional copy” to be sent to the Registrar General (ie to supersede the original Quarterly Certified Copy).

They won’t be late registrations, which would be sent in with the Quarterly Certified returns for the relevant quarter

If a change has resulted in a re-registration of a birth, the new entry effectively supersedes the earlier one. The earlier entry remains in the index, but would have to be identified in the usual way and a copy of that earlier entry specifically ordered".
