I have a burial for Anthony Cartwright 10 September 1674 at Norton. He is described as being "of Garlick Wheel". I have also one or two other entries with that address.
Does anyone know whereabouts this was? The Cartwrights lived at Norton Lees.
Looking at the attached link - a History for the area around Bishops House at Norton Lees/Meersbrook - Garlick Wheel was a Water Mill (also known as Smithywood/Cliffefield).
Thank you very much Denise. The site is exactly right for where the family was living. Obviously the wheel had been in operation much earlier than the writer of the article thought.
