hi
i am looking for my grandfathers world war2 records
all i have got so far is his service number which is 1589258

his name is Ernest Nicholson, born 3 december 1912,
and lived in yorkshire sheffield.
i need to know if he received any medal???
i would appreciate any help that you can give
Lynne,
Ww2 service records are only available from Army records office in Glasgow. To get complete records you have to apply by snail mail, pay £30 up front, non refundable, prove you are next of kin and that they are deceased.
Normally it takes about 3 months to get the answers but under Covid it now seems to be about 12 months waiting list.
There are 2 bits of good news. The fact you have his service number is useful and should simplify the search, and when you do eventually get them they are very detailed and informative.

Lynne, just to answer your question" did he receive any medal". Everyone who fought in Ww2 was awarded at least 2 medals and up to a max of 5. Which ones depended on where he went.

British and Commonwealth troops were finally withdrawn from Greece (Crete) in June 1941. Service there would qualify him for the 39-45 Star..
