Hi. I am researching the Rutter family. The earliest record I have is 1770, which is the baptism of Alexander, son of Alexander, saw maker. Is anybody else researching this family, or can shed any light on them? Many thanks.
Hello John. I believe that they arrived in Sheffield c1770, possibly via Birmingham, but before that I don't know. How far back do your Lincolnshire Rutters go?
In Bradfield Archives, free to use on line, the term RUTTER gives 14 records from the 1820s and 30s, including a long double sided letter written and signed by Alexander bemoaning his situation. It looks like he lived in one of the grinding wheels owned by the Duke of Norfolk and suffered something close to bankruptcy in 1827 and died in 1830.
