Hi, Could someone help solve a promblem? I have Elizabeth marrying John Watson 3q 1854 Sheffield but have them living as man and wife in the 1851 census with her family. Cannot find a marriage for them before 1851. Ancestry has the marriage but not with them together on the same record. Any help would be appreciated. regards Barry
I see from the 1851 Census that the family are living at Edwards Street.
There is a marriage 11 August 1850, Sheffield Parish Church for
Elizabeth Rhodes, aged 23 (born abt 1828), Spinster of Edwards Street, father John Rhodes, Grinder
John Waters, aged 23, batchelor,Cutler, of Rockingham Street, father Joseph Waters, Cutler.
So this would put them living as a married couple in 1851.
Going back to 1841 Elizabeth (born abt 1828) is living with her family in Jericho - father John Rhodes, Scissor Maker
Could this be them and its just an error with John's surname?? But also I cant find a marriage in 1854 for Elizabeth Rhodes and John Watson.
Thanks Denise, I did not think about his name being misspelt and must have assumed the marriage of Elizabeth Rhodes in 1854 was with John Watson. I am Greatful for the info.
