Parish marriage- no parents listed

Hi everyone,

I've found a parish marriage and the original copy aswell but it's very short without fathers name on it..Is there no way of finding out who the groom's father was?
Michael BEATSON and Sarah HOBSON 29-05-1836 Sheffield
Thank you for any advice
Michelle xx

Re: Parish marriage- no parents listed

Hi Michelle,

Which Church( Sheffield Parish Church?) and the persons name......please.

1836 should have had the fathers name. If that section is empty it looks like he didn't know his fathers name.

Hi Elaine,
Yes it was Sheffield Parish Church, St Peter and Paul is it?
Her father is missing aswell, but on the original it doesn't have the box for fathers name.
Hope you are well xx

Re: Parish marriage- no parents listed

Hi Michelle,

Trying to make amends for leading you astray. I have just turned up their wedding at Sheffield Parish Church and as you said neither have their fathers names there. None of the other marriages have a fathers name etc so it must have been a later date than I thought for those to be added.

Dont know if you have the following burials.

BEATSON, Michael (, died on ?, at the age of 76).
Resided at 11 Albert Rd and buried on 17 Oct 1892 in ? ground;
Grave Number ?, Section ? of All Saints Cemetery, Ecclesall.
Notes: . Place of Birth: . Parent(s): .
Minister's Name if Available: .

BEATSON, Sarah (, died on ?, at the age of 64).
Resided at 33 Wolseley Rd and buried on 16 Jun 1880 in ? ground;
Grave Number ?, Section ? of All Saints Cemetery, Ecclesall.
Notes: . Place of Birth: . Parent(s): .
Minister's Name if Available: .

BEATSON, Thomas (, died on ?, at the age of 11).
Resided at Ecclesall and buried on 28 Apr 1848 in ? ground;
Grave Number ?, Section ? of All Saints Cemetery, Ecclesall.
Notes: . Place of Birth: . Parent(s): .
Minister's Name if Available: .

Have you found any baptisms for any of their children?
Naming pattern of their children might also help finding Michaels fathers name.

Its just not showing up.I have tried FMP, Family search, Apprentice lists.

I had wondered if Michael might have been a Catholic.

Will get back to you if I find anything that might be pertinent.
At least its taking my mind of the Virus problems.

Re: Parish marriage- no parents listed

Hi Michelle,

On the 1851 census, Michael and Sarah have a one year old son called Michael.

Birth registration: Q2 1849 Ecclesall Bierlow, Michael Eggbeary Beatson,
MMN Hobson.

Marriage 16 March 1873, St.Silas.
Michael Egberry Beetson, 23, Bat. Cutler of Young St. father, Michael Egberry Beetson,
Cutler.
Mary Ann Heath, 19, Sp. of Broomhall St. father, Thomas Heath, book keeper.

There is a Michael Egburey bap at Sheffield Parish Church, 28 July 1811. Parents, George
and Ann.
There is also a burial 7 Apr 1812.

I can't find a baptism for a Michael Eggbury (various spellings) born around 1815.

I might be on the wrong track here, but, Eggbeary/Egburey is a very unusual name
and there must be a connection somewhere.

Moira.

Michelle

Civil registration began as a result of the 1836 Births and Deaths Registration Act together with the 1836 Marriage Act and was introduced 1st July 1837.

Before Jul 1837, Parish Registers were used for baptisms, marriages and burials.
