No first name on gro /BMD

Hi,
Just wondering if the reason no name is given only 'Male' meant a stillborn or if the name was unable to be transcribed? Thanks in advance

Births Sep 1862 (>99%)
GOODISON Male Wortley 9c 204

Re: No first name on gro /BMD

Sarah, it was a legal requirement to register all live births. There was no such requirement for stillbirths. You should check on GRO for a corresponding death registration.very shortly after the birth, probably only hours.
