Frank Goodison

I am trying to find out about the second marriage for Frank Goodison. 1923 in Rotherham to an Ethel Goodison. I have a feeling that she was a widow and maybe a different maiden name but can't find anything to prove this.
Thanks in advance

Re: Frank Goodison

Moira. You are genius.
Thanks
I suspected she was Ethel Wilcox from searching on BMD but couldn't find proof.

Re: Frank Goodison

The GRO index indicates that Frank, Joe and William (Willey) were brothers with mmn Mitchell.

Re: Frank Goodison

Thanks Dave. Yes I have the 5 brothers but the way they change their names still catches me out. I will need to keep alert! Christened Willey but using the name William. It seems Frank's wife died and William died. So they kind of hooked up with their other halfs...

Re: Frank Goodison

Sarah
The marriage of a man to his deceased brothers widow was contrary to Ecclesiastical Law until 1921. In 1921 an Act of Parliament specifiaally legalised the practice, The reason was that during Ww1many men who died had left their family in the charge of a brother so there was a big upsurge in demand.
