Godparents on records?

Hi, I have found 3 baptisms for my Whitehead family on this site. I am wondering whether or not the records have godparents listed. I am at a brick wall with the father of the children; my 3rd g-grandfather. Also; how does one order a copy of the record?
Example: Whitehead, Hannah (of Sheffield, born 1834-02-02).
Baptised March 30, 1834, by J Gibson at Sheffield Parish Church, Church Street, Sheffield.
Parents name(s) are Charlotte & Charles (glazier).
Note:
Godparents: ~ :Page No 81 :Reg No 645

Any help appreciated;

Hi Fran

The images from the Sheffield Parish Church of SS Peter & Paul are available on FindMyPast.

Re: Godparents on records?

Godparents were rarely recorded in Anglican registers until the 1960s, and I've never seen them in the 19th century. Sorry.

Re: Godparents on records?

Fran, the records on this site for your baptisms say:
Godparents : ~
That means that there were no godparents recorded in the original record.

I did eventually find them on Findmypast. Thanks for replying.

Re: Godparents on records?

thanks for replying. I'm finding that English documents carry very little information of value - wives/mothers seldom mentioned and if they are no maiden name is given except on marriage. Too many Marys LOL Frustrating after doing my French Canadian ancestry where mother maiden name is always mentioned: even on her death.

Cheers, Fran

Re: Godparents on records?

Fran, for Births after 1837 you can get mother maiden name from GRO Index free online.
Before 1837 only baptisms and almost never MMN and frequently only father name.

Re: Godparents on records?

Yes, I do that however now I'm pre-1837.
