Hob Lane Farm. 1911

Would anyone be able to assist with who was living at Hob Lane Farm Oughtibridge 1n 1911. I know Joseph Mettam Ibbotson was there in 1939.

Archie Hudson (head, single 36) farmer, Charles I.T. Hudson(brother,single, 48) retired farmer, Adeline P Turner (sister, widow 45) and Edith Hughes (single, 31) general servant. Archie died suddenly in October 1931 aged 56 and left £4,192.

The Hudsons had been at Hob Lane Farm for a considerable time. The Sheffield Archives have some documents:

Bargain and sale of title and claim to a cottage at Hob Lane, being waste ground of the Duke of Norfolk, By William Hudson of Hob Lane, Bradfield, husbandman, to Thomas Rogers of Fairhurst, Bradfield, husbandman. In consideration of £5. Subject to a rent of 2s. to the chief lord of the fee. Tenant John Armitage. 9 Jan 1707/8 (ref SY254)

Also a Fairbanks map ref FC/P/Bra/35S Hob Lane Farm, Bradfield. Held of the Duke of Norfolk by Joseph Hudson in 1800.

Ref SY411 - Copy probate of the will of Mr John Hudson of Cliffe House in the chapelry of Bradfield, farmer. To his son Joseph Hudson all his money, securities, goods, chattels and personal estate, subject to payment of debts and funeral expenses;

to each of his sons Benjamin, George and James an annuity of £10 during their respective minorities by equal half yearly payments, the first such payment to be one week after his death;

to his son Joseph, his heirs and assigns, his messuage called Cliffe House and the farm and lands appertaining thereto subject to a yearly rent charge of £12 payable to his wife Elizabeth during her life by two equal payments half yearly, the first of which is to be made six months after son Benjamin attains 21 years of age;

messuage and farm lands called Hobber Croft with appurtences in possession of Elizabeth Whiteley and Jonathan Stuart to his son Joseph Hudson and his assigns during the minority of his son Charles, and to Charles on reaching 21 years subject to rent charge of £5 per annum payable to his wife Elizabeth during her life;

also to Charles £200 payable twelve months after his death;

to his son Joseph during the minority of son George one moiety in his messuage and farm in parish of Glossop called Upper Fold now in possession of Philip Barnes, to pass to son George on his reaching 21 years;

the other moiety in above to son Joseph during son James minority, then to James on reaching 21 years;

to his wife during the minority of son Benjamin his messuage and farm called Taglands in the chapelry of Bradfield in possession of Joseph Stanley and Charles Ibbotson, and the parcel of ground called Taglands Wood, and to pass to his son Benjamin on reaching 21 years subject to annual rent charge of £5 payable to his wife;

to his daughter Martha his cottage and croft in possession of John Booth at Brightholmlee and £200 to be paid twelve months after his death;

to his daughter Mary, wife of Richard Ibbotson, his close called Castle Bents Field in Bradfield in possession of Sarah Greaves, all rents due from it, and £150 payable twelve months after his death;

son Joseph appointed sole executor.

Signed: 16th July 1822.

Witnesses: John Brown; Edward Furniss; Thomas Pearson.

Probate granted at York 22nd April 1825.

Note: On 16th October 1861 at Bradfield Church, John Hudson, yeoman, of Hobber Croft, Oughtibridge, married Phancy Hudson, elder daughter of Mr Joseph Hudson, yeoman, of Cliffe House, Bradfield. John and Phancy were the parents of Archie, Charles and Adeline.
