George Hague/Hague Family

I am trying to trace the origin of my ggg grandf George Hague, born circa 1814. He was quite a prominent builder in Sheffield and helped build parts of Broomhill as well as other areas.
He had worked for the Sheffield City Council Dept beforehand.
Another member of the family was also a publican of the Mason's Arms in Park (other members of the Hague family were Masons, stonemasons and builders). The family also owned the quarries in Grimethorpe and Cricket Rod. It appears the Hague family had been working in the park area from at least 1821.

I would appreciative if anyone could share any information about this George Hague or this branch of the Hague family.

Thank you

James :relaxed:

Re: George Hague/Hague Family

Hi James,

1861 census, 9 Henry St, Broomhall, Sheff.
George Hague, head, widower, 47 (1814), Mason employing 30 men & 10 boys.
With him are seven children and a housekeeper.

Is the above your George Hague?

Marriage 1 Jan 1862, Sheffield Parish Church.
George Hague, 48, Widower, Builder of Sheff, father - George Hague, groom.
Ann Wilde, 48 Widow, of Sheff, father - James Hoosen, grinder.

If all the above is correct, there are two baptisms at Sheffield Parish Church
where the father is called George, one in Aug 1812 and the other Oct 1813.

Moira.
