Herbert Hatton

Other than sending for his naval records, how do I find which ships my uncle Herbert Hatton sailed on during the Second World War,

Herbert Hatton was born in Sheffield on June 6th 1910 and died in Novembef of 1985.

Re: Herbert Hatton

Hi Chris

You dont say where you've tried already but this is a really useful site by the Imperial War Museum.

https://www.iwm.org.uk/research/tracing-your-family-history/tracing-your-royal-naval-history/where-to-find-royal-navy-service-records.

Theres also https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/

I think most of the available records will be 'paid for'. Most of the free records tend to be around casualties, and/or Officers.

I've had a quick look on Findmypast but couldnt see any RN information for him on there.

Re: Herbert Hatton

Thanks, I have looked at this other sites before, but they don't seem to have information on the Second World War. I believe service records for WW2 are still locked. My cousin can send away for them, but we dont know his service number and that makes it harder

Re: Herbert Hatton

Chris, if it works the same as with army records then his name and date of birth should be enough.

Re: Herbert Hatton

Chris

I sent for my father's records from the second world war, he was a colour sergeant in the Royal Marines I didn't have his service number. I received them within two weeks. They cost me £30 but well worth it.

He served in the Coldstream Guards before the war and I obtained these records from the Wellington Barracks archives by visiting in person.

Re: Herbert Hatton

Thanks, sounds like they come faster than I thought.
