Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Hi Can anybody help me please, I'm looking where the above 2 people may be buried, or point me in the right direction.

Samuel was born about 1776 and may have died about 1810

Mary was born 1777 at Handsworth or maybe Kirkheaton, Samuel and Mary were married at Handsworth 15 April 1799 both of this parish, and all their children were baptised at Handsworth.
Don't know when Mary died.

Thanks
Chris

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

There is a burial of a Samuel Martin on 9th Apr 1810 aged 34 at Handsworth St Marys Church. He was living at Gleadless. I wonder if the reason you do not know when Mary diedis since Samuel died at a young age could Mary have then remarried?

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Hi Christine et al,

1851 Census- Water St, Sheffield

Mary Hutton-age 80 (est.1877) widow receiving parish relief
William Martin-(son) age 48 (est 1803) cutler, married
Eliza Martin (daughter) age 50 (est 1801) married

This maybe Mary Hallas/Martin..??? I have not been able to find a marriage to 'Hutton'

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Hi Wendy

Thank you for your reply, I am ruling out this census as they didn't have a son Called William,

Thanks again Chris

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Hi John

Thanks for your reply, I had seen this year for Samuel's Death but I am not certain how to find this record, could you advise me please, they did live at Gleadless, so presume this will be him, never thought about Mary marring again. I'm sure you could be right, as it looks like she had 5 children between the ages 1 to 10.

Thanks again for your help

Chris

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Hi Elaine

Thanks for your reply,

Here are some answers to your questions.

He last fathered a child in 1809.

I haven't found him on a census.

I haven't looked through the parish register, John has found me details of a Samuel Martin's burial at Handsworth St Marys Church. 9th April 1810.

I haven't found Samuels occupation, but 2 of his sons were coal miners, so that is a possibility, most of my family were coal miners.

His children Nancy B 1799 (although the dates look like she was born 1 month after they
Thomas B 1801 married. would this be possible?)
John B 1802
Hannah B 1804
George B 1805
Stephen B 1806
George B 1809

They lived at Common side Gleadless.

Not Certain about the baptism you have found Elaine as I would think it more likely that he was christened at Handsworth Church.

Thank you again for taking time to reply

Chris

Re: Burials of Samuel Martin and Mary Martin

Morning Angela,

I followed your LINK through to the material on Handsworth and I noticed that it states
that Handsworth Registers are deposited with the incumbent. Is that correct? I thought they had been moved to Sheffield Archives.
