Wallace Family

Hi Forum,

I am looking for information about some relatives of mine: Walter Wallace and his wife Lily Whitehead. Walter and Lily had one daughter that I know of, named Bertha (1903-1993), who married a Broadhead. I’m guessing that Walter was born around 1870. If anyone here has information about Walter and his ancestors, please contact me by email.

Thank you,
-KK

Re: Wallace Family

KK
Free BMD gives the marriage of Walter Wallace to Lily Whitehead as Sheffield 1888.
The GRO index, which is free to use online, shows the birth registrations in Sheffield of several other of their children in Sheffield before the birth of their last child, Bertha, in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1903.

Re: Wallace Family

Thank you for the information!

For the last two hours, I have been searching freebmd, Sheffield indexers, and other various sites but still haven’t found much info on James Wallace, the father of James Richard Wallace. I would like to know more about him and his ancestry.

Also, I have a question: was James Richard born in June of 1869 or March? I have found two sources stating these different dates.

Best,
-KK

Re: Wallace Family

The GRO Index, which is free to use on line gives the birth of James Richard Wallace in Sheffield in March Quarter 1840. It also gives his mother maiden name as Gregory.

Edit. Tha same source gives the birth registrations of his brother and many sisters between 1838 and 1850

(Northern parts of Sheffield originally came under the parish of Ecclesfield).

Re: Wallace Family

Hi KK,

The General Registry Office and the Sheffield Council site would have helped also. They are both Free sites. Access to the census is a must for any research.

I was going to ask you if the date you had was correct but I see Moira has helped you with that query.

Walkley Hall was at the corner of Heavygate Ave and Bole Hill Road if you know the area.
