Henry Heathcote burial details - help needed please.

Hi, Can anyone find the burial details for Henry Heathcote, born 1822 in Sheffield, please? His parents were Ann and John, who was a cutler. They were from the South Street, Park area. I've been unable to find Henry's burial on this website or trace him in the 1841 census, so I think he may have passed away before then. There is a burial in the National Burial Index in 1829, of a Henry Heathcote aged 7, who could possibly be him. Thank you to anyone who can help me. Donna

Hi Carol,

Thank you very much for those details. I'm sure it's the right person.

I believe that the church was demolished and the remains were reinterred in Abbey Lane
cemetery.

So sad that Henry passed away at such a young age.

Kind regards,
Donna

Correction to my post above - I've just read that the remains were reinterred in Wardsend cemetery.

hello Donna,

I think you were right first time. Where did you read that they were re-interred at Wardsend?

Hello Hugh,

I'm afraid I can't remember, as I looked on several different websites.

Do you know how I can find out which section of the cemetery the remains were reinterred in, please?

Kind regards,
Donna

Hi Donna,

Have you tried.....

https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2149031/wardsend-cemetery

Or City Road Cemetery Bereavement Services.

BUT.... I dont believe they were placed in individual graves when re re interred.

Section B consecrated at Abbey Lane - I went and found the place earlier this year. I can say more later - off out any minute :)

Re: Henry Heathcote burial details - help needed please.

Donna,

When the St Philip's churchyard was cleared for Supertram the human remains were buried under trees in the corner of section B (consecrated) at Abbey Lane. A few memorials were also moved there to lay over the remains.

You can find the plan of the cemetery on this site. You will see that the long 'front' boundary on the Abbey lane side turns in the bottom right hand corner to form an irregular north-eastern boundary. The St Philip's remains are against the front wall just before that turn.

In June the gravestones (laid flat) were overgrown. I am hoping to go back and make them more visible.

I posted some photos in the Wardsend FaceBook group:

I will also send you a satellite image with the location marked.
