Information on Thomas Morton m Elizabeth Middleton

Hi,

I have hit a brick wall unfortunately in tracing any information on my 3 x great grandfather, Thomas Morton.

All I have is that he married Elizabeth Middleton and they had a son, John Morton, in Sheffield in 1837.

I have no knowledge of date of birth, or even if they originated from Sheffield.

Any help or advice on how to search would be gratefully received.

Theresa

Hi,

The marriage record says that they were both of the parish of Sheffield at the time. One of the marriage witnesses was a James Morton.

Theresa,
The GRO index, free to use on line, shows that John Morton was born in the third quarter of 1837 in Sheffield and his mother maiden name was Middleton. It also shows that the same couple had a daughter Mary in the fourth quarter of 1840 in Sheffield.
The same source shows that a 2 yr old Mary Morton died in Sheffield in 1843. That may or may not be the same Mary.
