Thwaites

Lydia Thwaites was baptized in Sheffield in 1698. Her father was Samuel Thwaites, s boxmaker of Ecclesall. There are two possible marriages for Samuel: 1681 to Maria Pygott, or 1687 to Elizabeth Staniford. Which woman is the most likely mother for Lydia?

Heths.

Re: Thwaites

Hi Heather, There is a christening for a John Thwaites in December 1681 in Sheffield with the father Samuel, So there is a strong possibility that he married Maria Pygott that year. regards Barry

Re: Thwaites

Hi Barry, the baptism for John was at the Upper Chapel. The one for Lydia was also there, so this is looking good:grinning:
Many thanks.

Re: Thwaites

Actually there is quite a a gap between the baptism for John in 1681 and the one for the next child, Hannah, in 1688. Does the 1687 marriage for Samuel Thwaites to Elizabeth Staniforth definitely say that he was a bachelor, or could it say boxmaker? There is a burial 27/8/1684 for a Maria Thwaites "uxor Sam.Thwaits"
