I am trying to find the origins of my Bradshaw line in my family tree. I have posted a while ago and have got back a little further since, however I am stuck at my x7 g grandfather. His name was William Bradshaw, that's all I have. William had a son also called William who would have been born circa 1748 (according to one Ancestry account baptized in Uttoexeter Stafford 1748?, which is a bit random), he married a Mary Whiteley April 1775 in Sheffield Cathedral. This puts the birth date of William senior to around 1720-25?
I am trying to find out if my Bradshaw's did come from Sheffield ( I am the only one not from there since!). Recently I have been reading about the history of the Eyam plague and apparently some members of a Bradshaw family did flee from Derbyshire to Sheffield, 100 years earlier. I'm sure they would have come from others areas in the north too.
I would be interested to hear any comments or useful information about the Bradshaw's.
Thank you for your response. Yes I think we have been in touch before.
Your tribal page is very interesting and very detailed. I have had a look and cannot see a link but will delve further to see what I can see re the origins of the Bradshaw's.
Interestingly there is a place called Bradshaw in Lancashire. I think I will have to find the origins of my William Bradshaw first.
What is your link to Sheffield?
My LINK with Sheffield is that I was born there and spent the first 20years of my life there.
One word of caution dont go scrambling tn places other than Sheffield until you have ruled out that they did NOT originate there.
If they came from Sheffield what is now the Cathedral will need their records scouring for family members if not William. Rule that out first. Their occupations would be helpful.
Have you checked out the Apprentice records over to the left?
Have you looked at Bradfield & Ecclesfield. Not far from Sheffield and many Sheffielders went out there for a "quite" wedding etc.
