This one for Elaine in Ottawa, My wife's family name Attwood here in the midlands but
there is a mystery. WE obtained his wifes death certificate 1/9/1888 in Walsall Midlands
U.K. Widow of JOHN ATTWOOD Fulton Oswego county America... Chainmanufacturer.
But not able to find out any source in Oswego at the moment...and I see quite often
you succeed in your searches, Elaine Oswego is on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Dont know if I can help with this one as I do not have a World Membership with Ancestry.

Yes I do know where Oswego, New York state is. It is on the south shore of Lake Ontario across the Lake from Kingston Ont. Huge Lake so not sure how far in Miles. We have been through it on one of our sight seeing tours of the area.
Mohawk country and Oswego means (outpouring).

I would think maybe the Chamber of Commerce might be a good start and they can probably link you in with their Historical Society.

grave stone. has only the name of Elizabeth Attwood died 1888 aged 62. and nothing else ?
it is in the grave yard in the area in the Village of my wife was born.

To date, I have not found John and Elizabeth in the 1851 census.

This next census entry is the closest I could get to John Attwood.
1841 census - Five Ways, Rowley Regis, Dudley, Staffs.

Jemima Attwood, 40yrs, born in County. (Jemima's death Reg. Q2 1856, Dudley).
Matheas Attwood, 8yrs, born in County. (Death Reg. 1842 or 1847, Dudley).
Joseph Attwood, 6yrs, born in County.
Elizabeth Attwood, 5yrs, born in County.

There is a marriage between a John Attwood and a Jemima Palmer,
13 Feb 1831, Old Swinford, Worcester.

Following on from the information Moira found- the 1861 census stated Emily and Mary Ann Shaw are described as daughter in laws- I think this means step daughter. So Elizabeth must have been married previously.
