Re: Wheelhouse family

Hi Maria,

The most logical place for Francis to have been baptised would be Sheffield Parish Church
which is now Sheffield Cathedral.

If you click on the picture of the Cathedral over to the left it will give you a little history.

There were very few churches in Sheffield at that time. I can not see a Francis Wheelhouse baptismal at all.

Sheffield Parish Church (Cathedral) - 1653 to Aug 13, 1752

and then 1816 to 1842

Those are the dates we have transcribed.

What information do you have that states he was from Sheffield?

Elaine in Ottawa.

PS.

Re: Wheelhouse family

Hi Maria/Sue/Moira,

Are you all coming to the conclusion that the original Francis Wheelhouse did not come from Sheffield?

Saying that I believe I also saw a Francis baptised in Sheffield on Family Search about 1703.

Re: Wheelhouse family

St. Paul, Sheffield.
Elizabeth Wheelhouse wife of Francis, buried 22 January, 1778.

I have not found one for Francis in Sheffield.

From Google Books; The Arkwright's - Spinners of Fortune.
It is from a section about a mill that is being built in Rothesay, Scotland
'The site had been leased on very liberal terms from the Earl of Bute by James
Kenyon and Francis Wheelhouse, already in partnership as watchmakers, and
Jonathan Moore, victualler, all of Sheffield. On 7th December 1778 Wheelhouse
and Moore withdrew from the partnership'.

That fits with a marriage I found last night on Family Search for an Elizabeth.

Re: Wheelhouse family

Hi Maria,
I cannot enlighten you on the place and date of birth of Francis Wheelhouse but I did pick up on possible, related records that may be a good fit on the Family Search website.
Francis Wheelhouse married 16th July/1780 at Braddan, Isle of Man to:
Anne (Mrs) Barker (not Baker?) Suggesting, Ann(e) may have been married before and given the time lapse for Francis, he too may have been previously married or he was a late bloomer...?
Children of this marriage:
Francis Wheelhouse- B: 18/Dec/1780 at Malew, Isle of Man
Abraham Wheelhouse- B: 20/June/1782 ditto
Charlotte Wheelhouse- B: 23/Jan/1789 ditto
There may have been other children? No luck on the Lisbon death. Hope this helps. Wendy B.
