Re: 4 Court Saville Street 1888

Jim, if you want to see what the typical back-to-back court houses were like then take a look at the PictureSheffield site. If you search for Whitby Hotel you get 7 answers and they include photos from front, side and back of the hotel so you see the shops on the front, the court houses behind and the "ginnel" entrance to the court from the street. You can also see the block of outside privies in bottom right of the photo of the court houses there. The number one court house has been incorporated into the hotel.
PS, apologies to all you Yorkshire folk if I have used the wrong term (ginnel), which I know from Lancashire. Is it the same term in Sheffield?

Re: 4 Court Saville Street 1888

Thank you David. I have the site bookmarked from previous research but the hotel referencxe was very useful. I have searched Sorby Street, Carlisle, Heeley Green and found numerous photos although nothing of the exact addresses that I am searching. Thanks again.
Jim
