Re: Re my 1851 Census query

Dave T
Roger, George's mother was Emma Poppleton born 1834. She had a second illegitimate child (Emma) in 1858. That child died soon after birth. She then had a third in 1860 but for that one the father (Habershon) legitimised him. She is together with Habershon in 1861so clearly George was not welcome in that household. She then married Habershon and had several legitimate children In the 1860s.
George A Poppleton disappeared after 1861.

Hi Dave

Again some very interesting research on your part, information which I will keep for future reference.

Many thanks !

Re: Re my 1851 Census query

Hi Roger,

When son John gets married in 1861, his father John's occupation is
given as 'Ostler'.

On the 1841 census at Jehu Lane, John's occupation is ostler and he is
born between 1792 and 1796. Not born in county.

The 1851 census at Bakers Hill, John's date of birth would be 1791, he is still an ostler. When his place of birth was given, perhaps it was misheard
and Treeton entered instead of Torrington.

On the 1861 census, his age is given as 61yrs, born 1800. Perhaps as he
is most likely to be ill at this point, Mary or son John guessed his age.
John's burial is on this site.

I can only find one baptism that would fit John.
John Robinson baptised 10 April 1791, East Torrington, Lincolnshire.
Parents: Benjamin and Martha.

I presume Jehu Lane is now the Jew Lane running off Fitzalan Square ?
Bakers Hill is also in that location.

Hi Moira

You found John in the 1841 Census, well done, something I gave up on with so many John Robinson's being around at that time.
Fair assumption that East Torrington was misheard / mispelt !
Yes, I have recorded John's death from information in these burial records.
Thanks for the baptism record, something for me for the future.

Many thanks

Re: Re my 1851 Census query

Moira, a technical blip you may have noticed i.e. my comment about the location of Jehu Lane and Bakers Hill was somehow included in your words
