Hi! I am trying to look further into my paternal grandmothers life in Sheffield. Her name was Gertrude Burkinshaw, and according to the 1901 and 1911 census, she lived at 18 Stanley Place, Bright Street, Carbrook. The district is Attercliffe cum Darnall. I cannot find anything for this address on any maps unfortunately.
I would love to hear from anyone who knows this area, and am particularly interested to know which school she may have gone to when living at that address.
Any information at all would be gratefully received.
Probably Brightside school for girls a photo is her of Stanley Place http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s19748&pos=4&action=zoom&id=22280
I am no expert on the Attercliffe area but by looking at my Alan Godfrey map of Attercliffe 1903 it shows Bright St. By looking at a more recent map I would say that most of the streets around Bright Street where cleared many years ago. May have even been bombed during WW2. NOT SHOWING Stanley Place.
