Re: Schools near Hague Lane

Part of your query I can probably make a suggestion with.

If he has a prize from Victoria Hall he/his family were probably Methodists.

I would suggest that you contact who ever is in charge of Vicoria Hall as its still standing and I believe their major chapel.

Elaine.

PS. do you have one of the Allen Godfrey Maps of Park district it shows chapels and schools though a little earlier than you want it might help.(1903) I believe there was a swimming pool on Duke Street but its not showing on the 1903 map. I could be mistaken on that. So you might want to look at a later map.

Amanda,

Just looked at a map and the only Haugh Lane I am turning up states off Bents Rd, Ecclesall.

Are you sure its the Park area?

Re: Schools near Hague Lane

Hi Amanda, Hague Lane 14 Gilbert St to Talbot St, ParkThere is a School on Lord St between Gilbert St and Norwich St. I looked on the 1903 Gilbert OS map but couldn't find Hague Lane even though it is shown in my old street Guide.
There is one picture of No 39-41 Hague Lane on Picture Sheffield which shows a very derelict property.

Morning Amanda,

On my Alan Godfrey Map of Sheffield 1921 there is indeed a Public Baths between Simson St & Coates St.

Re: Schools near Hague Lane

My cousins lived in Hague Lane and attended Park Council School 40's 50'
I think St.John's school was a little further away
It was a cobbled Lane and the houses were very run down. Theirs was a garret 8 back to back, living kitchen, bedroom and attic bedroom.
Shared outside toilets at the back of the houses.
One of the Rows at Parkhill Flats was named Hague Row.
Very interesting memories of Park Baths. Google -Park Baths (archive) Sheffield Forum.
