trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

William Harrison, birth the 23 April 1811, in Sheffield Baptized 12 May 1811 in Cathedral Saint Peter. I have the (Baptism record)
I have been able so far to match the mothers maiden surname to the children's names
William was the son of William Harrison and Anne Stone.
On the baptism record for William (1811)
the wording is:-
Will'm sn of John and Eliz'th Harrison Rope Mr'a born 23 April 1811

My interpretation is William son of John and Elizabeth Harrison, Rope Maker

There are 2 siblings of William, Hannah born in 1817 and Samuel birth 1819.
I found a possible marriage for a John Harrison in Cathedral Saint Peter
to Elizabeth Robinson 26 September 1802 in Cathedral Saint Peter.
My question is as I cannot find the wording on anything to show (Rope Maker)
Do you think I have the correct marriage? There are so many John Harrisons, trying to find one with rope maker. I have found a John Harrison (Grinder) and another was a (Saw Maker)
There are several baptisms for John Harrison at Cathedral Saint Peter
John Harrison Bapt. 28 March 1769 father John Harrison
" " ' 3 September 1760 Father John
John Harrison Birth 1781??
Many others
The marriage which looks most likely is the marriage To Elizabeth Robinson because of Date and location,
I tried looking on the burial records on Sheffield Index but no Rope Maker
Its difficult as the census never started until 1837.
Appreciate any assistance, Barry

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

I am a little confused - you say Wm 1811 parents John Harrison and Ann Stone.
Then you mention Wm son of John Harrison and Elizabeth Robinson. which one are you searching for?

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Sue sorry if I confused you, I was trying to add all the information I have
William Harrison born in 1811 it just says his parents are John and Elizabeth
(Rope Maker)
I then went on & tried to say This William married (birth 1811) Sarah Hattersley 22 July 1832. I have the records for the family so far.

I also have the baptism record for William born in 1811 but I can't seem to go back further. It just says his parents, John and Elizabeth (Rope Maker)
I was hoping the marriage in 1802 was correct for Williams Parents, again there are a few John Harrisons as mentioned on my first note.

It was this William Harrisons SON born in 1846 that married Ann Stone

The basic question is looking for parents of William Harrison birth 1811
If possible dates of birth etc.

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Hi Barry,

The marriage of John Harrison and Elizabeth Robinson in 1802 was
by License.
26 Sep 1802, Sheffield Parish Church.
John Harrison of the Parish of Ekinton(sic) in the Diosese of Lichfield,
bachelor and Elizabeth Robinson of this parish, spinster.
The index for the licenses gives both John and Elizabeth's ages as 21.

There is a John Harrison born 26 March 1814, Bap 1 May 1814 at Sheffield
Parish Church, Parents - John and Elizabeth, rope maker.

Hannah Harrison born 1817, father a Roper.

Samuel born in 1819, his father John is a saw maker. so not yours.

It is possible to order copies of marriage licenses and this would
most probably say what sort of work John did.

Moira.

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Moira , definitely on the correct path, Hannah being the sister of William and John Harrison being a brother. You have the correct occupation, Rope Maker I found a birth for a John Harrison for 1781.
Now its just a case of finding the correct John Harrison and Wife Elizabeth parents of these 3 children. With the said occupation of Rope Maker.
I tried to see if there was an 1841 census for John Harrison (Rope Maker)
Most of the baptisms, weddings appear to have taken place at Saint Peter Cathedral.
Just wondering if there is a death or burial for a John Harrison (Rope Maker)
with a possible age and perhaps other family members in the same grave.
It certainly gets harder when you go back to around 1800.
Thanks Barry

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Moira the 3 children of John Harrison and Elizabeth we no are correct
William born 23 April 1811, Bap. 12 May 1811
John born 26 March 1814, Bap. 1 May1814
Hannah born 1817 Bap 19 March 1817
All at Cathedral Saint Peter.
Is there anyway of finding their mothers maiden Name???

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Hi Barry,

I am presuming the marriage I gave you earlier is the right one, so,
her surname is Robinson. William, the first child you have was born in 1811
which leaves a gap of about eight years from the marriage in 1802.
John the father is said to be of the parish of Eckington, (re the marriage
to Elizabeth).

If you google Eckington births or Ridgeway Registers, there is the
possibility of two more children baptised at Eckington in 1803 and 1805
plus the burial of one of these children.

Moira.

Re: trying to see if its possible to extend a family link in the Harrison Family

Barry,
This may be of no use to you at all but I have a Harrison/ Robinson connection with the Robinsons being in Sheffield back to about 1800 (I am also stuck there) but my Harrisons were from the Doncaster area and worked on the river. That is Richard Harrison was a "mariner" born in 1763. Both his granddaughters, Hannah and sarah (Sally) Lodge were born in Doncaster and married Robinsons in Sheffield in 1836 and 1844.

Richard had at least one brother William born in 1760 but I have no information on him or any other siblings.
I know this is a bit early for your man however it might be worth looking at this family. They are on Find My past.

Best of luck in your research.
