Need Help for the families of Joseph Stacey 1831-1864, Parents, & siblings
Joseph Stacey married Martha Grace Wright 19 March 1855 in St. Georges Church Sheffield. (I have the marriage certificate)
It says Joseph's father was Thomas Stacey (BRUSH MAKER) (BUSK MAKER?)
Joseph 24, living on Arundale street.
I found the 1841 census on Sheffield Index for I believe the family living on Garden Street. I also found the 1841 census on ancestry the same where it has a Joyce, when you zoom in it should be Joseph.
I found the death for Joseph in 1864 while Martha died in 1871
Trying to work back from the 1841 census Thomas was born abt. 1796 along with wife Elizabeth abt.1796
I have found only one possible marriage for Thomas to an Elizabeth Pilkinton the 11 May 1813 at Cathedral Saint Peter Sheffield
This would make Thomas abt. 15 and Elizabeth abt. 15.
According to the 1841 census the first child Thomas was born in 1821.
If the 1841 census is correct the last child Elizabeth was born in 1839
I have found other Thomas Stacey but all have different Occupations
There is a baptism for a Thomas Staceye the 5 August 1798 at cathedral Saint Peter. Father Samuel Staceye and Mother Elizabeth
The 1861 census I have is correct where Joseph and Martha are living with Edmund Wright (father-in-law) Living on West View.
I need help trying to locate Josephs Father, Mother dates and census????
There are very few baptisms for this family
I have had a lot of help from another person who like me is baffled!!!
Appreciate any help
Re: Need Help for the families of Joseph Stacey 1831-1864, Parents, & siblings
Hi Barry
Occupation is definitely BUSK MAKER, he made corsets
"The busk was inserted into a special narrow pocket in the front of the corset, and tied in place with ribbons. Busks generally ran from the breasts to the top of the pubic bone. The busk was supposed to keep the posture straight and upright, as well as helping to keep the breasts elevated and the belly flat. The longest, most extreme, examples must also have made sitting a challenge."
