Whilst carrying out some recent research, my curiosity was aroused in connection with this church.
Looking at the Sheffield Church Yard Burials Alphabetic Index CD, there are an awful lot of burials relating to St James.
The church was demolished after the 1940 Blitz damage.
There are photos on the Picture Sheffield site of both the church and the graveyard which doesn't look all that large. You can relate the position of the graveyard to present day Sheffield. After the burial services in this church, were some of the deceased buried in the Cathedral church yard ?
A significant number of the burials at St James' were in vaults in the crypt. I recently found an article from 1924 describing these vaults in some detail. The article says this was the only church in Sheffield which had a crypt.
